Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site

Where History Moves Forward

Buffalo has never been a small story.

From the Pan-American Exposition to the moment Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office, the city has stood at the center of defining chapters in American history. The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site carries that legacy — not as nostalgia, but as responsibility.

As a Buffalo marketing agency working across nonprofits and cultural institutions, we partnered with the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site to design and develop a website that honors that history while positioning the organization for its next era of growth.

Built for the Next Chapter

The opportunity was clear: build a digital presence worthy of the story it tells.

The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site is the location where Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated as the 26th President of the United States in 1901, following the assassination of William McKinley during the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo.

Today, the organization operates at the intersection of history, civic education, preservation, and community engagement. With major anniversaries to consider, including the Erie Canal Bicentennial in 2025 and the 125th anniversary of Roosevelt’s inauguration, the site is preparing for increased visitation and expanded programming.

Leadership saw the website as a critical platform to:

  • Increase in-person and virtual visitation
  • Elevate education and curriculum resources
  • Support ticketing, donations, and private events
  • Highlight Buffalo’s role in national history
  • Create a welcoming digital experience for local, national, and international audiences

Rooted in Story

Our process began with discovery, stakeholder interviews, and a deep dive into the site’s mission of cultivating good citizenship.

We restructured the information architecture to better reflect the organization’s five civic pillars, educational priorities, and public programming. Rather than presenting history as static, we helped frame it as ongoing. The content connects Roosevelt’s era to the social, environmental, and political issues that remain relevant today.

The Pan-American Exposition and Buffalo’s role in that global moment were given appropriate prominence, reinforcing local pride and national significance.

Designed to Enable Discovery

The physical mansion cannot change, but the digital experience can.

We created a modern, accessible UX/UI system that:

  • Brings clarity to ticketing, events, and giving
  • Elevates educational resources for teachers nationwide
  • Showcases programming and community engagement
  • Highlights architectural and archival imagery
  • Reduces friction in navigation and page hierarchy

The result is a site that feels open, intuitive, and confident — inviting both first-time visitors and returning supporters.

Built for Growth

The new platform supports the organization’s long-term ambitions.

We developed modular page templates and scalable backend functionality that allow staff to manage content internally while preparing for future integrations, including the following:

  • Expanded virtual programming
  • Multilingual visitor experiences
  • Evolving ticketing and POS systems
  • Online exhibit storytelling

By aligning design, content strategy, and development, the site now supports increased visitation goals and expanded civic programming.

It reflects an institution that understands its past and is actively shaping its future.

Conclusion

Theodore Roosevelt’s inauguration marked a turning point in American leadership. Buffalo was at the center of that moment.

Today, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site continues to connect history with civic responsibility. Its new website does the same.

Grounded in heritage. Designed for growth. Built to welcome the next generation of engaged citizens.
