Job Purpose: This position leads to the development of brand story language and brand voices for new and existing brands, including 19 Ideas. This position also leads to concepting, researching and writing copy for marketing and advertising platforms, tools and collateral across all mediums, from digital to print to video. The content strategist leads to strategy and information architecture for website projects, working closely with web designers and digital specialists. Having a versatile writing style is a key component for this role with the ability to identify the best style and tone to reach audiences and achieve desired business goal results for both 19 Ideas and our clients. This position will be a key collaborator with the Digital Experience department, Associate Creative Director, and Creative Director roles for successfully meeting the strategic objectives of our clients and our company.
Essential Functions
The Content Strategist will:
- Serve as copywriter for specific 19 Ideas clients and internal agency promotional work. Key responsibilities will include writing brand, sales and educational materials; digital advertising copy; print collateral pieces; website copy; campaign concepting; and video scripts.
- Lead content strategy and contribute to information architecture decisions for websites and lead the copywriting and copyediting portion of website projects.
- Support the Creative Director with the development, review and guidance of concepts, creative and brand strategies, and client presentations.
- Lead the creation of brand story language development for branding projects of all sizes, finding a voice and personality for brands that supports strategic client goals.
- Participate in the production of video projects including concept and script writing and working with crews to create dynamic video content for social, website and paid content placements.
- Communicate directly with project management and the creative project team during all phases of a project, including content outlines, revisions and feedback, and supplementary recommendations to further the work.
- Review, structure, and organize content to ensure clarity, coherence, and strategic alignment across all relevant projects for 19 Ideas clients and our agency.
- Carry out error-free copy and proofreading, using industry-standard proofing styles.
- Provide copy and communications that are cohesive to clients’ brand and tone guides, as well as work with the larger team to maintain consistency throughout each project.
- Maintain responsibility and thought leadership throughout the creative writing process, as well as remain prepared for discussions and process explanations.
- Present creative work, reasoning and best-practice communication strategies to the creative director, and clients, when available.
- Positively and efficiently adapt feedback into revision work, while keeping all changes organized and easily understood.
- Stay atop industry, market, cultural and field trends to implement within creative work.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 7-10 years of proven writing experience in an advertising or marketing role. Agency experience is strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in marketing or communications is preferred but not required. English and journalism degrees are encouraged to apply.
- Must have a portfolio of published work for review to be submitted, including three (3) writing samples across a variety of clients and mediums such as traditional and digital advertising, websites, social media, and blogs.
- Experience with digital and social media, video scripting, SEO, advertising, marketing, and website writing and content structure development is preferred.
- Understand the importance of consistency in brand and voice, adhering to brand and tone standards and following brand style guidelines.
- Strong editing and proofreading skills, along with a solid knowledge of proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar, with proven cases of exceptional attention to detail.
- Have a keen sense for “visual” copywriting, as it relates to character counts and size parameters for all design work.
- Strong command of the English language, including expert understanding of at least one industry-standard style guide; most recent AP preferred.
- Demonstrate effective management of simultaneous projects that vary in size and scope in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment while meeting deadlines and staying on budget.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as project management and hour-tracking databases.
