Supporting Women Beyond International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day, and people all over the world are celebrating and honoring both the women in their lives and the every day contributions of women. There are many aspects about this day that can and should be celebrated. As someone who has always been career-oriented and as a current business owner, I have been reflecting on women in the workforce. We find ourselves in a pivotal time where many are trying to figure out where things stand — you see and hear this in political and business discourse throughout our country.

Over my 15-year career, I have seen a number of scenarios play out amongst career women, with battle lines being drawn amongst those with older, more experienced women versus those starting their careers; those with children versus those without; and also those who have a steady focus on climbing their current ladder versus those who take opportunities to either start a family and later come back to work or those who start second or third careers. The battle lines only hurt in what should be a collective cause of supporting and celebrating women who choose to make a living, regardless of what that may be.
