There are some obsessions in our lives that we can’t turn away from, no matter how hard we try. The obsessions that we can come back to at any time, even after months of absence. For many of us here at 19 IDEAS, one of them is listening to Radiohead. It’s the music we listen to regardless of mood: happy or sad, stressed or carefree.
With that said, it came as a great and welcome surprise to find out today that the band just released their newest single after years of characteristic silence. Called “Burn the Witch,” the single blends new and familiar elements together to create a song that is truly awesome. Give it a listen!
In typical Radiohead fashion, this was no ordinary release. It started this past weekend with certain fans receiving a poster with the single’s title on it in the mail. Then the website started getting lighter and lighter until it faded to white. Next, Radiohead deleted every tweet, post, image, and video from their social media accounts.
As someone mentioned in our office: “How to get people talking about you without saying a word… disappear. Entirely from the internet. Genius.” But let’s file this one under things only Radiohead could do.
Their web presence completely erased by Sunday, Radiohead got people sitting on the edge of their seats waiting to see what’s next. It wasn’t until early this morning that they started releasing bits of video on Instagram, promising something. Finally, they released the single on YouTube and on their website.
What’s next for Radiohead? If the general consensus on the internet is correct (which it always is, right?), this single is just one song on a new album that should drop soon. We’ll be sitting here hitting that refresh button on radiohead.com waiting for more news.
