PR Raven: Season 8 Episode 3
THE NIGHT KING AND THE ARMY OF THE DEAD DEFEATED AT WINTERFELL
Massive casualties incurred in the northern capital
Dothraki army eliminated
WINTERFELL, WESTEROS – The Night King and his army of the dead were defeated in Winterfell upon their attempted siege of the northern capital. Vanquished by Arya Stark – daughter of the late Eddard Stark – with a Valyrian-steel dagger in the torso, the Night King was defeated, eradicating the Army of the Dead instantaneously as a result.
Used as a lure, Bran Stark resided in Winterfell’s Godswood sanctuary to draw the Night King out. Stark was initially protected by Theon Greyjoy – son of Balon Greyjoy who ultimately fell at the hand of the Night King. Up until the final moment, Arya Stark remained hidden within the foliage, leaping out to assassinate the Night King and effectively ending the battle.
Earlier in the fights, Dothraki troops on the front lines immediately perished upon the first impact with the Army of the Dead. Battle plans were then altered as Daenerys Targaryen – Daenerys Stormborn of House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains – vacated her post to help save surviving troops.
While initially protecting the Unsullied who were also suffering great losses in the fray, battle strategies pivoted to then turn to the sky. Targaryen and Jon Snow rode Drogon and Rhaegal respectively to battle the Night King atop the undead Viserion – Targaryen’s former dragon. While wounded, both Drogon and Rhaegal have been confirmed as alive.
Below the castle, those unable to fight in the crypts were unsuspectingly drawn into battle. As the Night King reanimated fallen troops, corpses buried in the crypts joined the leagues of the Army of the Dead and threatened the lives of those seeking safety from above. Key survivors of the battle in the crypts include Sansa Stark – Lady of Winterfell – and Tyrion Lannister – Hand of Queen Targaryen.
Others who have perished in the battle are still being examined. Among the countless casualties suffered, notable fallen warriors include:
- Lyanna Mormont – Lady of Bear Island
- Eddison Tollett – Acting Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch
- Beric Dondarion – Lord of Blackhaven, The Lightning Lord
- Ser Jorah Mormont – Jorah the Andal
- Theon Greyjoy – son of Balon Greyjoy
- Lady Melisandre – the Red Woman
As Winterfell recovers, remaining troops will soon be sent south towards King’s Landing to enforce Targaryen’s claim to the Iron Throne against Queen Cersei Lannister – Cersei of the House Lannister, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms.
Is the winter really over, or is it just beginning?
